Jessica Mann biographical details


Jessica Mann (b.1937) holds degrees in archaeology from Cambridge and law from Leicester universities. As a freelance journalist, her features, travel writing and reviews have appeared in most national newspapers and magazines and she is currently crime fiction reviewer for The Literary Review. As a broadcaster she has appeared on the BBC’s Question Time, Any Questions, Round Britain Quiz and Start the Week. She has served on numerous public bodies concerned with the NHS, Town and Country Planning, Employment Tribunals and the Arts. Her paper on ‘The Language of Crime Fiction’ given to the 2009 seminar Points to the Arts is published on the Ostara website (www.ostarapublishing.co.uk). As well as twenty crime novels, she has written non-fiction books on British female crime writers (Deadlier Than the Male) and on the evacuation of children from wartime London (Out of Harm’s Way). She divides her time between Cornwall, where she lives with her husband, the archaeologist Professor Charles Thomas, and London
